10 Biggest Motorcycle Engines Available In 2025

“Bigger is better.” “There is no replacement for displacement.” We’ve heard these sayings many times about how more cubic inches will translate to a better motorcycle. The public believes it, and the manufacturers have to give the public what it wants. This arms race for the largest displacement engine had reached its peak in the 2000s with cruiser motorcycles getting larger than ever. Then things had quieted down for a decade or two.

However, now with technology that allows for more power without the penalty of equivalent consumption, manufacturers have begun pushing the envelope again. Sure, there is something to be said about the high-revving joy of a sports bike engine, but the torque of a big engine loping away beneath you is something to behold when the taps are opened. On that note, here are the ten biggest production motorcycle engines available in 2025.

To ensure accuracy, the information compiled in this article was sourced from the respective manufacturers, as well as other authoritative sources. We’ve ordered them from smallest to largest displacement to give the list some order. If there are identical displacements, we’ve ordered them by power output.

The largest engines from popular brands cover everything from a 650 cc twin to a 2.5-liter monster

10 Indian Springfield

Displacement: 1,819 cc

Indian Motorcycle

The Springfield is a throwback bagger that straddles the line between retro design and modern running gear, and it does it really well. Indian nicely offers either a shiny chromed Springfield with riveted leather seats, traditional Indian front fender, and two-tone paint job, or you can have it in a more modern look with matte finish paint, and a blacked-out engine and exhaust. Both run the Thunderstroke 111 air-cooled engine (with the option of the larger Thunderstroke 116) with a by-wire throttle, ride modes, a six-speed gearbox, and ABS.

Engine Type Thunderstroke 111 49 degree V-twin, air cooled, 2 valves per cylinder
Displacement 1,819 cc
Max Power NA
Max Torque 108 LB-FT @ 3,200 RPM
Price $24,999

9 Honda Gold Wing

Displacement: 1,833 cc

Honda’s flat six engine is one of the automotive world’s engineering marvels. It remains the only horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine in all of two-wheeler land, and the technology it packs would put some car flat sixes to shame. Honda has reduced the Gold Wing engine’s overall width by using its Unicam SOHC design to operate double overhead cams for each cylinder’s four valves. It has a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox paired to it. No matter whether you get the automatic or the manual, you get a ‘creep’ function to help you maneuver it in a parking lot. It even gets an IMU and ride modes to help you have a safer ride!

Engine Type Horizontally opposed six-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4 valves per cylinder, Unicam SOHC
Displacement 1,833 cc
Max Power 124.7 HP @ 5,500 RPM
Max Torque 125.3 LB-FT @ 4,500 RPM
Price $25,200

8 Indian Pursuit

Displacement: 1,835 cc

2024 Indian Pursuit Elite

The Pursuit isn’t cheap, at a couple of thousand under $40,000, but it is the most modern of the Indian tourers. It was the first to get the liquid-cooled PowerPlus engine, and it can be had with either the PowerPlus 108 or PowerPlus 112. Get the bigger one, and only the two most powerful Harley tourers will outdo its power figure. You get a lovely 7-inch touchscreen, but we’re not sure that a product as premium as the Pursuit should have features like cornering ABS and cornering traction control as a $3,000 option. The Premium Package will net you these as well as a heated seat, electronically adjustable rear suspension preload, and aux lights.

Engine Type PowerPlus 112 60 degree V-twin, liquid cooled, DOHC, 4 valves per cylinder
Displacement 1,835 cc
Max Power 126 HP @ 5,500 RPM
Max Torque 133 LB-FT @ 3,600 RPM
Price $37,999

7 Harley-Davidson Road King Special

Displacement: 1,868 cc

The Road King Special follows the tracks of the Springfield. It has lovely retro bagger styling, but unlike the Springfield there is no chrome option. There is only the option of a blacked-out engine and exhaust, although the alloy wheels that look like spoke rims are a great touch. The Road King Special is powered by the Milwaukee-Eight 114, with fuel injection and liquid-cooled cylinder heads. Also on the options list is a host of safety features, including cornering ABS with linked brakes, cornering traction control, cornering drag-torque slip control, hill hold assist, and a tire pressure monitoring system.

Engine Type Twin Cooled Milwaukee-Eight 114 45 degree V-twin, air cooled cylinders/liquid cooled heads, 4 valves per cylinder
Displacement 1,868 cc
Max Power 95 HP @ 5,020 RPM
Max Torque 122 LB-FT @ 2,750 RPM
Price $25,749

6 Indian Chieftain

Displacement: 1,890 cc

The Chieftain has Indian’s largest engine: the Thunderstroke 116. This is an air-cooled, two valve per cylinder engine that is an upgrade to the Thunderstroke 111 we’ve talked about previously in this article. Despite the air cooling, it is modern in other ways. It has fuel injection and a by-wire throttle that allows access to ride modes. Happily, Indian will allow you to have it either blacked out or in chrome depending on which Chieftain you purchase. Oh, and you can also get yourself a Thunderstroke 116 in an Indian that currently has a Thunderstroke 111, because it is still available as a dealer level upgrade. Meaning it doesn’t affect warranty, either!

Engine Type Thunderstroke 116 49 degree V-twin, air cooled, 2 valves per cylinder
Displacement 1,890 cc
Max Power 92 HP @ NA RPM
Max Torque 119 LB-FT @ 3,000 RPM
Price $23,999

5 Harley-Davidson Road Glide/Street Glide

Displacement: 1,917 cc

Harley-Davidson

Harley’s top-spec tourers from its standard lineup run its biggest engine from its standard lineup. To run you quickly through the difference between the Road Glide and Street Glide, the latter has the ‘Batwing’ fairing that is mounted to the front forks and turns with the handlebar, while the former has the ‘Sharknose’ fairing that is frame mounted and will offer better stability under crosswinds at highway speeds. Both are powered by the Milwaukee-Eight 117 engine with liquid-cooled cylinder heads. It has a by-wire throttle and ride modes (including a Sport mode!) as a result of its tech. All of H-D’s safety features are standard on these models.

Engine Type Milwaukee-Eight 117 45 degree V-twin, air cooled cylinders/liquid cooled heads, 4 valves per cylinder
Displacement 1,917 cc
Max Power 105 HP @ 4,600 RPM
Max Torque 130 LB-FT @ 3,250 RPM
Price $27,749-27,999

4 Harley-Davidson CVO Road Glide/CVO Street Glide

Displacement: 1,983 cc

Harley-Davidson

Harley’s CVO series of models are almost limited-run models. Almost, because they technically aren’t. However, the kind of technology and features they possess, and the price they command, mean that they become limited editions by default. However, you do get the best of the best for your money. In the case of the CVO duo, that means the Milwaukee-Eight 121 VVT engine, which adds variable valve timing to the liquid-cooled heads, by-wire throttle, and ride modes. The VVT means better throttle response and fuel economy across the rev range – always a welcome addition no matter the vehicle!

Engine Type Milwaukee-Eight 121 VVT 45 degree V-twin, air cooled cylinders/liquid cooled heads, 4 valves per cylinder
Displacement 1,983 cc
Max Power 115 HP @ 4,500 RPM
Max Torque 139 LB-FT @ 3,000 RPM
Price $45,999

3 Harley-Davidson CVO Road Glide ST

Displacement: 1,983 cc

Now if you weren’t in a mood to get better throttle response and fuel economy, and just wanted maximum horsepower for your displacement, you’d do the same thing as the Milwaukee-Eight 121 High Output from the CVO Road Glide ST. That is, junk the variable valve timing in favor of a power and torque curve that rewards revs. It does this to great effect, offering an extra 12 horsepower and 5 pound-feet of torque. In addition, there is adjustable suspension and brakes that are up to the task of reining in this behemoth, a result of Harley’s participation in racing with a modified version of this model.

Engine Type Milwaukee-Eight 121 High Output 45 degree V-twin, air cooled cylinders/liquid cooled heads, 4 valves per cylinder
Displacement 1,983 cc
Max Power 127 HP @ 4,900 RPM
Max Torque 145 LB-FT @ 4,000 RPM
Price $44,999

2 Harley-Davidson CVO Road Glide RR

Displacement: 2,147 cc

Harley-Davidson

Harley-Davidson’s newest model is a firebreathing tourer that isn’t really a tourer. That ‘RR’ in the CVO Road Glide RR is a serious thing, because this is as close as you’ll ever get to the actual racing entry in the King Of The Baggers. The Screamin’ Eagle 131 ci is such a serious piece of kit, it just took the largest production motorcycle V-twin crown away from the Kawasaki Vulcan VN2000, which has had it for 15 years! Oh, did we mention that you get a race intake, racing camshafts, Stage IV ported cylinders, a full titanium Akrapovič exhaust with carbon tips, and a billet clutch basket?

Engine Type Screamin’ Eagle 131 45 degree V-twin, air cooled cylinders/liquid cooled heads, 4 valves per cylinder
Displacement 2,147 cc
Max Power 150 HP @ 5,750 RPM
Max Torque 150 LB-FT @ 4,750 RPM
Price $110,000

1 Triumph Rocket 3

Displacement: 2,458 cc

2025 Triumph Rocket 3 Storm accelerating front third quarter view
Triumph Motorcycles

The original Rocket 3 took the crown of largest production motorcycle engine away from the Kawasaki Vulcan VN2000 way back and it has held the crown since then. Now in its second generation, it has increased displacement and output, and reduced weight. It is kept under control by an electronics suite to rival a superbike, with a six-axis IMU. The biggest surprise, however, might be its price. It might not have all the creature comforts of the full-dress tourers here, but with a price of just over half their retail, but with a bigger engine and a superbike-rivaling power output, it seems like a steal!

Engine Type Inline 3 cylinder, liquid cooling, four valves per cylinder, DOHC
Displacement 2,458 cc
Max Power 179.5 HP @ 7,000 RPM
Max Torque 166 LB-FT @ 4,000 RPM
Price $24,995
